Midweek Message – September 28, 2017

It was great to see so many people out for the Gathering Service! Special thanks Cliff Le Jeune for his gift of music, there are pictures on our Facebook page and the website. Thanks to Vanessa Churchill and David and Eunice Fizzard for organizing brunch/lunch, and Bill and Eunice Parks for finishing the cleanup. Thanks to Jill Fraser for taking the pictures.

It’s World Wide Communion this Sunday, where we will be using a variety of breads to represent different people of the world and perhaps feel more connected to them. The scripture passages are Exodus 17:1-7 and Philippians 2:1-5 and I am pondering How to Create Community? Not just within our church, but beyond our church into our communities and into the world.

Presbytery Meeting – Thank you to those who turned out for the meeting with the presbytery reps who have been walking with us on this interim ministry journey. Thank you for the affirmation of my ministry with you; I look forward to the rest of our time together.

Ambassador TrainingNew Date! Do you like to welcome people? Do you want to ensure that visitors want to come back and be part of our faith community? Then come to ‘Ambassador Training’ on Wednesday, October 11th at 7:30 and check it out!

Mindful Mondays – Did the term ‘Creative Prayer’ scare you off? We had 4 people come this past Monday. Join us this coming Monday for a Taizé style service at 7:00 pm. Taizé is simply sung prayer, simple melodies that are sung over and over again, along with silence, in a candle lit atmosphere. We sang Taizé style prayers for the Good Friday service this past year. I am delighted that Tracey Miller has agreed to play for this service. If you want to learn more about Taizé, check out this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiz%C3%A9_CommunityCP

Sunday School starts at Riverview this week, Michael Rainnie is the SS cooridinator while Vanessa Churchill looks after the nursery. I am trusting that we will have enough volunteers to provide safe space for our children.

Governance – Rev. Catherine Smith is coming to the the Riverview Executive’s Grounding Gathering on November 1st; you may remember her from her presentation regarding the new governance model we are using at Riverview

And last, but not least, Pat is on vacation from October 1-9, so the office and church may not be open the usual hours next week.
